This week Waitaki District Council and the Mayor’s Task Force For Jobs (MTFJ) celebrated 28 local employees who have successfully completed training in their industry field in the last year.

Employers who had supported their training included Observatory Village, Whitestone Contracting Ltd, Milligans Food Group, Alliance Farmers Produce and Whitestone Cheese.

At a ceremony hosted by Council and the MTFJ at the Oamaru Opera House, the graduates and their families were welcomed by Waitaki District Mayor Gary Kircher and Councillor Jim Hopkins, and heard from Aynsley Martin of Aynsley Martin Videography about her career journey, working locally and upskilling as she went.

Waitaki District Mayor Gary Kircher says: “It’s important we recognise the people in our District who put in the hard yards to improve their skills in the workplace and their employers who support their workforce to develop and grow in their roles. At a time when it’s more and more difficult to find good staff to fill vacancies, growing the knowledge and skills of our workforce is incredibly valuable to the Waitaki District”
